Final Gathering Concludes Community Transportation Input
The third and final community meeting for the Decatur Community Transportation Plan Update was held on May 10, 2018, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Decatur Recreation Center. The effort — which prioritizes Health, Mobility Choice, Community, and Connectivity — builds upon the progress of the 2007 Community Transportation Plan and is intended to consider our future mobility needs, challenge our current thinking about how we may reach destinations 10 to 20 years from now, and pursue an increasingly balanced transportation network over time....

Civic Dinners are sort of like a focus group where people come together around a table to share their thoughts on a particular topic. Except in our case, rather than the future of widgets, that topic is the future of these 77 beautiful acres. And rather than a sampling of demographically-aligned strangers, it’s your neighbors. And rather than a sterile conference room with two-way mirrors, it’s someone’s dining room or local restaurant...

Discuss, Refine: Week of workshops brings neighbors to the table
When first announced, Decatur’s purchase of the 77 acre United Methodist Children’s Home property was largely received as a win for greenspace, particularly given that 22 of those acres became immediately preserved in perpetuity as a condition of their financing. East Lake MARTA Planning Process Concludes with Community Presentation
Representing each of the neighborhoods surrounding the East Lake MARTA Station, over 80 residents turned out February 26 to hear closing recommendations for the area's future.
What they heard capped six months of broad community participation and input, and detailed how the long-underutilized station might ultimately become a more meaningful “front porch” gathering space and center for adjacent neighbors...

Refining Ideas for the Children’s Home Property: Don’t miss these upcoming workshops
While the future of the former United Methodist Children’s Home property was expected to be a popular topic for Decatur residents, perhaps no one anticipated just how popular that might be. But thanks to a kick-off meeting drawing over 400 residents and the ongoing Civic Dinners presently taking place at tables around town, we’re amassing hundreds if not thousands of ideas to consider, assess and potentially incorporate.
