Stormwater Drainage Projects Seek Residential Input

Getting to Work

During its October 18, 2021 meeting, the Decatur City Commission approved moving forward with the recommendations contained within the City of Decatur 2020 Stormwater Master Plan, following implementation strategies presented on August 16.

The first four of these stormwater improvement projects identified in the plan and shown on maps at the bottom of this post are now scheduled to begin.

Affected areas include portions of North Decatur Road, Superior Avenue, Willow Lane, Ferndale Drive, Derrydown Way, South Columbia Drive, Hilldale Drive, Park Drive, Candler Street, Brower Street, and McClean Street.

As part of the design process, the City has directed the engineering firms of AECOM and Atkins North America, Inc. (Atkins) to begin the public engagement process for their respective projects to hear from affected or interested residents in each neighborhood. Each of these firms has completed a variety of projects within the City of Decatur, including the design and construction of other drainage projects.

The proposed projects will include green infrastructure practices to improve water quality and infiltration where possible and traditional infrastructure to mitigate the stormwater impacts and runoff.

Throughout the design process, residents will have the chance to provide input and comments in-person or online to help further identify stormwater issues and discuss possible improvement opportunities.
