Clean Energy Plan

Decatur offers regional leadership on local climate action via clean energy

Launched in October 2021 in response to priorities voiced during the Decatur strategic planning process, the Clean Energy Plan provides clear direction to guide our transition away from fossil fuels and towards a resilient, renewable future.

Over the course of a year with the support of the Southface Institute and Greenlink Analytics, Decatur stakeholders were invited to contribute to and review the draft plan as it came together, providing feedback on the proposed clean energy targets and other topics.

The Decatur City Commission adopted the Clean Energy Plan on September 26, 2022.

The plan further addresses the city’s contributions to climate crisis mitigation, while also improving living conditions and addressing equity issues. It sets out an ambitious but viable path to a clean energy future, despite its aggressive goals and conditions outside of Decatur’s control.
