Hampton Inn + Suites Opens

New hotel expands lodging options and conference possibilities in downtown Decatur

A project in the works since 2014, the Hampton Inn and Suites at 116 Clairemont Avenue finally opened in 2019. The hotel complements the Marriott Courtyard hotel next door (originally a Holiday Inn), constructed in 1988.

The six-story hotel has 145 rooms and includes an indoor saltwater swimming pool, meeting spaces, a 24-hour business center, a gym, free breakfast and free WiFi.

The parcel on which it was built had been land banked since the Ponce Plaza Offices (now 101 W Ponce) opened in 1991. For 25 years the property owners maintained the lot as a manicured landscape open to the public as a downtown greenspace.

Said Decatur Community and Economic Development Director Lyn Menne at the time of the Hampton Inn opening, “The addition of these hotel rooms will allow us to attract some larger, regional conferences to the adjacent conference center. The conference center is larger than the available hotel rooms at the Marriott can accommodate so the additional rooms at the new hotel make the center more marketable. The Marriott hotel sales team supports the idea.”
