Comprehensive Planning is a process required by the state of Georgia to ensure that all communities achieve minimum planning standards and procedures, especially as they relate to physical infrastructure. Here in Decatur, where planning (and planning some more) is a way of life, we use the Comprehensive Plan process as an opportunity to do a midterm check-up on our larger Strategic Plan, which was completed in 2010 and is due to be updated in 2020.
The Strategic Plan, like any planning document, is rooted in certain assumptions, expectations, and projections about the future. Want to help ensure we’re still on track as it relates to things like population, demographics, economic development, transportation, land use, affordable housing, and natural and cultural resources? Then make plans now to participate.
Here’s what’s coming up this month:
Phase One Open House
Wednesday, March 16 | 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore Street
Open House session to focus on population, demographics, economic development and transportation topics. Drop in any time. Expect a half hour to participate.
Phase One Drop-By Opportunity
Saturday, March 26 | 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Calloway Building Touch-a-Truck Event
Miss the March 16 meeting? We’ll have topics from that meeting repeated here for your review and comment. Drop by and chime in.
We’ll have further opportunities in April and May so stay tuned. The full schedule, as it currently stands, can be found here.
