Decatur Turns Out for Comp Plan: Come hear what they had to say

Earlier this year, Decatur announced plans for its state-mandated update to the city’s Comprehensive Plan. Three months, six public input opportunities, and an online survey later, nearly 1,500 residents have offered their thoughts on the city’s growth — from demographics, economic development and transportation to land use, affordable housing, and natural and cultural resources.

Curious to know what they all said? Now’s your chance to find out.

Join us Wednesday, June 8, from 7 to 8pm at the Decatur Recreation Center, as we summarize the findings of this extended public conversation. What ideas had broad appeal? Which failed to gain traction? What remaining tasks in our Strategic Plan deserve the highest priority?

In short, what would the people of Decatur like to see moving forward, especially as it relates to growth and infrastructure?

The findings presented at the June 8 meeting will serve as the basis for the plan itself, which will be presented in draft form to the Planning Commission and City Commission in July. Thereafter will be a six week public review and comment period, informing a final draft to be presented in September.

Once that draft clears the City Commission, it goes to the state’s Department of Community Affairs, whose comments will inform our closing draft to be presented for adoption in October. So stay tuned.

Can’t make it? No problem. A similar presentation will be made to the Planning Commission during their June 14, 7pm meeting at City Hall. Join us then.

Otherwise, see you at the Rec.
