Earlier this summer, Decatur Public Works staff held an on-site meeting with Great Lakes neighbors where proposed design improvements for the intersection of Huron and Champlain Streets were presented for resident input.
Beyond previously recommended improvements like a narrowed entry to Champlain Street, a new crosswalk and ADA-compliant ramps, and bioretention for stormwater, residents may now notice a number of additional modifications based on the feedback received.
- New pedestrian crossings across both Huron Street and Champlain Street
- Striping to delineate lanes at the intersection and the turning movement for those traveling south on Huron Street turning onto Champlain Street
- A mountable median to be installed for an evaluation period
